Strength rehabilitation of a pipeline system at the critical point by mechanical preloading

چکیده
Computer modelling and numerical FEM analysis of buried preloaded (prestressed) piping of a compressor station is shortly discussed in the present paper. The aim of the preloading is to reduce the stress intensity at the critical point of the piping. The necessary preloading force was computed as a non-linear function of the effects of bearing and friction at the pipe/soil interface. The real magnitude of the force and the unloading bending moment were tensometrically measured during preloading. Paper also presents brief descriptions of the proposed preloading procedure to be applied as well as the tensometric checks of the preloading force and the necessary relieving bending moment. The comparison of the FEM results and the evaluation of measurement readings confirmed the efficiency of preloading under service conditions.

Stress- Corrosion Crack Initiation of High-strength Pipeline Steel in Near-neutral pH Environments
Stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) tests were conducted in the near-neutral pH standard solution, NS4, and in an actual soil solution, using four-point bending at a high stress ratio and low frequency conditions very similar to those of operational pipelines. Pitting incubation appeared first and then pitting initiated and grew in both solutions although there were many more pits on the specimen t...

In this paper, the conjugate gradient method coupled with adjoint problem is used in order to solve the inverse heat conduction problem and estimation of the strength of the time- dependent heat source using the temperature distribution at a point in a three layer system. Also, the effect of noisy data on final solution is studied. The numerical solution of the governing equations is obtained b...

متن کاملMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DENTAL COMPOSITE MATERIALS REINFORCED WITH MICRO AND NANO-SIZE Al2O3 FILLER PARTICLES
Abstract: Composite specimens were prepared by dispersion of various amounts of nano-sized Al2O3 fillers in a monomer system containing 60% Bis-GMA and 40% TEGDMA. For comparative purposes, composite samples containing micrometer size Al2O3 fillers were also prepared following the same procedure. The mechanical properties of the light- cured samples were assessed by three-point flexural strengt...
